Should I Downsize My Home?

There's no universal right answer. The best decision balances how you want to live with what the numbers actually show.

CHECK MY DOWNSIZING NUMBERS

Signs downsizing may fit

  • Rooms you rarely use and upkeep that takes your weekends.
  • Stairs or a yard that are getting harder to manage.
  • A goal to free up equity for retirement, family or travel.
  • Wanting to live closer to family or in a walkable area.

Reasons to pause

  • Your current property tax and insurance are low and the new home would cost more monthly.
  • You'd need to finance the next home at a higher interest rate.
  • Your family plans may need the space in the next few years.

Run both sides

Compare cash remaining and monthly costs for staying vs. moving. If the numbers are close, lifestyle usually decides it.
